Chicka Boom!

We start the year with some of my favorite books.  Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!  is not new to my kids: most of them have heard it at home or at preschool.  They really love it and most of them can say most of the words.  We watched the video this week, too.

We went on a Chicka Boom hunt (tour of the school), made Chicka Boom hats,Coconut counting books, and coconut trees decorated with letters and dotters. We reviewed letter names and matched the upper and lower case letters.

We work a bunch with phonemic awareness at the beginning of the year, playing with oral language, and this book fits in perfectly.  We use this book as an example of one of the three ways we can read a book: retelling a familiar story.
